New blood test enables brain injury monitoring after stroke
Stroke is a medical emergency with rapidly evolving brain injury. But unlike other organs, the brain lacks a blood test to monitor acute injury. ISD researchers and international partners report that a new blood biomarker, brain-derived tau (BD-tau), can track brain injury after ischemic stroke, predict outcomes years later and reflect treatment effects.
