Post-Doc position in Bioinformatic (m/f/d)
The Hospital of the University of Munich, Germany, is one of the largest and most competitive university hospitals in Germany and Europe. 48 specialized hospitals, departments and institutions harbouring excellent research and education provide patient care at the highest medical level with around 11.000 employees.
The Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research (ISD) offers:
Post-Doc position in Bioinformatic (m/f/d)
Scope of duties
The interdisciplinary position is intended to bridge the gap between bioinformatics, experimental, and clinical research. A key element will be the development of processing pipelines to integrate omics datasets including genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic data with deep clinical phenotyping and to perform interactome and cluster analyses. Methods development and data analyses will primarily leverage data from the ongoing in-house CIRCULAS cohort (e.g. Tiedt et al., Circ Res, 2017; Tiedt et al., Ann Neurol, 2020) but also from experimental studies with the ultimate goal to better understand human stroke pathophysiology and to identify biomarker signatures. A second major focus will be the analysis of circadian and diurnal rhythms in the context of stroke to improve our understanding of how daytime shapes our body’s response to acute diseases.
Our requirements
The ideal candidate should hold a PhD degree in bioinformatics or related fields. The candidate should have extensive experience in programming (e.g. R, Python, Matlab), the analyses of omics data (with a particular focus on proteomics and metabolomics) and (ideally) of longitudinal data (e.g. circadian rhythmicity). Specifically, the candidate should be experienced in using MaxQuant and Perseus and in the application of machine learning methods, mixed models, clustering techniques, sinusoidal regression, and regression splines. Medical background and knowledge of biochemical processes is a plus. Suitable candidates should be highly motivated, have a high-degree of technical expertise, problem solving skills and scientific independence, with an interest in bioinformatics and methods development in a clinically oriented research setting.
Our offer
The position will be in the molecular biomarker group (PI: S. Tiedt, http://tiedt-lab.isd-muc.de) of the ISD in an international, dynamic and “open-door” atmosphere. The applicant will have unrestricted access to the deeply phenotyped CIRCULAS dataset and multi-center national and international datasets on cerebrovascular disease. We offer unrestricted access to cutting-edge research tools including an in-house high-performance computing cluster and to the HPC at the LRZ Munich. The applicant will be able to leverage existing collaborations such as with Jürgen Cox (MPI of Biochemistry) and Jan Baumbach (TU Munich) and work in an interdisciplinary and multinational group of experienced PhD students, Postdocs, physicians, and technicians. Salary will be according to TV-L. The position is limited to two years, extension is desired. The Ludwig-Maximilians University is an equal opportunity employer. Individuals of all nationalities, genders, ages, and those with disabilities are encouraged to apply. We give priority to applicants with a disability and essentially equal qualifications.
Interested candidates should submit their complete application documents (including CV, publication list, motivation letter, proof of completed PhD, names/contact information for three references and transcripts within a single PDF file) via email to: steffen.tiedt@med.uni-muenchen.de
